This Is Why It Matters
We provide a culturally grounded support network for First Nations youth and families, fostering resilience and strength through mentoring and trauma informed care.
Our Programs & Workshops
1:1 Mentoring (Youth Support)
Our 1:1 Mentoring Support is designed for young people who may be experiencing trauma, school disengagement, involvement with youth justice, family challenges, emotional regulation difficulties, identity struggles, or social isolation.
Through culturally safe, trauma informed and relationship based mentoring, we provide young people with consistent support, guidance and connection from someone who understands lived experience and the realities many young people face today.
This is more than just mentoring it is about building trust, restoring confidence, creating accountability and helping young people feel seen, heard and valued.
Each mentoring session is tailored to the individual young person and may include:
• Emotional support and safe conversations
• Building trust, confidence and self-worth
• Identifying triggers and healthy coping strategies
• Goal setting and future planning
• School engagement and motivation support
• Cultural connection and identity strengthening
• Support navigating peer pressure and community challenges
• Youth justice reintegration support
• Wellbeing and emotional regulation activities
• Reflective exercises, journaling and storytelling
• Positive role modelling and guidance
• Community connection and social development
Our approach focuses on meeting young people where they are at without judgement while creating safe spaces for vulnerability, honesty and growth.
Many young people involved in mentoring have experienced significant trauma, grief, violence, instability or disconnection. Through consistent support and genuine connection, mentoring aims to help young people break cycles, strengthen resilience and build healthier pathways forward.
Sessions are delivered in schools, community settings or approved safe locations depending on the young person’s needs and circumstances.
School-Based Workshops
Our School-Based Workshops are designed to create safe, engaging and culturally responsive spaces where young people can openly explore emotions, identity, trauma, resilience, relationships and personal growth.
These workshops are built from lived experience, trauma informed practice and authentic storytelling, allowing students to connect in a genuine and relatable way. Sessions encourage vulnerability, reflection, emotional awareness and positive peer connection while helping students feel seen, heard and understood.
The workshops are particularly impactful for students who may be:
• Disengaged from education
• At risk of suspension or exclusion
• Involved with youth justice or community concerns
• Experiencing trauma, grief or family violence
• Struggling with emotional regulation or behavioural challenges
• Lacking confidence, connection or positive supports
• Navigating identity, cultural or belonging challenges
• Impacted by mental health struggles, peer pressure or community violence
Workshops are tailored to suit the age group, school environment and needs of the students and can be delivered as one off sessions, weekly programs, term based engagement or targeted group work.
Workshop sessions may include:
• Interactive group discussions and yarning circles
• Storytelling and lived experience reflections
• Trauma-informed activities and emotional regulation exercises
• Identity, belonging and cultural connection activities
• Trigger awareness and coping strategy development
• Journaling and guided reflection exercises
• Team-building and peer connection activities
• Confidence and communication skill development
• Goal setting and future pathway conversations
• Original storybook readings and workbook activities
• Safe conversations around emotions, violence, grief and healing
The focus of each workshop is to create meaningful engagement while supporting students to develop emotional awareness, stronger connections, self-belief and healthier ways to express themselves.
Our workshops aim to support schools in building safer, more connected learning environments while helping young people feel empowered, valued and capable of positive change.
Group Mentoring Programs (4–6 Week Blocks)
Our Group Mentoring Programs are designed to provide young people with ongoing support, connection and personal development through structured weekly sessions delivered over 8–10 weeks.
These programs create a safe and consistent environment where young people can build trust, strengthen relationships, develop emotional awareness and explore challenges they may be facing in a supportive group setting.
Built through a trauma informed and culturally responsive approach, the programs combine lived experience storytelling, practical activities, reflective exercises and group discussions to encourage growth, resilience and positive peer connection.
Group mentoring is ideal for young people who may be:
• Disengaged from school or learning
• At risk of suspension, exclusion or offending behaviours
• Experiencing trauma, grief or instability
• Struggling with emotional regulation or anger
• Impacted by family violence, community violence or peer pressure
• Lacking confidence, connection or positive role models
• Navigating identity, belonging or cultural challenges
• Requiring support with social skills and emotional wellbeing
Throughout the 8–10 week program, young people are supported to build confidence, communication skills, self-awareness and healthier coping strategies while learning the importance of accountability, connection and emotional expression.
Program sessions may include:
• Weekly yarning circles and group discussions
• Emotional regulation and trigger awareness activities
• Identity, culture and belonging conversations
• Team-building and peer connection exercises
• Journaling and guided reflection work
• Goal setting and personal growth planning
• Leadership and confidence-building activities
• Safe conversations around trauma, grief and healing
• Storytelling and lived experience learning
• Interactive wellbeing and resilience activities
• Practical coping strategies and self-reflection tools
The aim of the program is to strengthen young people’s sense of self, increase engagement, improve emotional wellbeing and create positive support networks that continue beyond the sessions themselves.
Programs can be delivered within schools, community organisations, youth services, out of home care settings and targeted youth support environments.
The Jay Stories (Books & Storytelling Workshops)
The Jay’s Story series is a collection of original, trauma informed story books created from lived experience to help young people explore difficult emotions, experiences and conversations in a safe, relatable and engaging way.
These books were written to give young people a voice especially those who may struggle to express what they are carrying internally. Through storytelling, reflection and honest conversations, the series helps young people feel understood, less alone and more confident speaking about their emotions and experiences.
The books explore themes such as:
• Trauma and childhood experiences
• Family violence and instability
• Identity and belonging
• Emotional regulation and triggers
• Grief, anger and sadness
• Feeling disconnected or misunderstood
• Resilience and healing
• Mental health and emotional wellbeing
• Safe relationships and trust
• Strength, growth and self-reflection
The storytelling workshops combine live readings, guided discussions, reflective activities and workbook exercises to create meaningful conversations and emotional engagement amongst young people.
Workshops are designed to encourage vulnerability, self-awareness and peer connection while creating a culturally safe and trauma-informed environment.
Storytelling workshop sessions may include:
• Live readings from the Jay’s Story series
• Guided reflection and discussion questions
• Journaling and workbook activities
• Group conversations and yarning circles
• Emotional awareness and trigger discussions
• Identity and belonging activities
• Safe storytelling and self-expression exercises
• Team-building and peer connection activities
The books and workshops are highly effective within schools, youth justice settings, out-of-home care, mentoring programs and community organisations, particularly for young people who may struggle with engagement through traditional approaches.
Books are available for individual purchase, school programs, community organisations and workshop packages.
The goal of the Jay’s Story series is simple to help young people feel seen, understood and empowered through storytelling, connection and healing.
Testimonials
“Your ability to connect with the students, share your story, and have them think about their own story was terrific. I have seen many people come into our school to talk to students, but you were different a great different. Your books need to be seen by more people. You have a powerful talent that the world needs to see.”
— Alex, School Staff Member
“The activity you brought was amazing. It really helped the boys connect with themselves and others, while creating a more open and comfortable setting for the boys to show vulnerability and share about trauma in an authentic way. It was a real pleasure to have you, and I know the boys really enjoyed your laid-back professional demeanour and presence.”

Meet Jamali
My name is Jamali, founder of First Nations Community Support. Proud Wailwan man from Coonamble and grew up in Western Sydney.
I’ve worked extensively with young people across schools, out of home care, youth justice settings, and the wider community supporting those who have experienced trauma, domestic violence, and disconnection.
Through my work delivering workshops, one on one mentoring, and community programs, I focus on building trust, connection, and real outcomes for young people who often feel misunderstood or overlooked.
My approach is grounded in lived experience, cultural understanding, and showing up consistently creating safe spaces where young people feel heard, supported, and empowered to make positive changes in their lives.
My Approach
My approach is built on trust, consistency, and real connection.
I don’t come in with judgement or unrealistic expectations. I meet young people where they’re at, building relationships first because real change starts with trust.
Through mentoring, workshops, and community programs, I focus on helping young people build confidence, understand their emotions, strengthen their identity, and make positive decisions for their future.
This work is about breaking cycles not just managing behaviour, but creating long-term change.
About First Nations Community Support
Why I Do This Work
This isn’t just a career it’s a purpose.
I’ve seen how easily young people can be misunderstood, labelled, or overlooked when they don’t have the right support around them. I know what it feels like to be in that position.
That’s why I’ve committed my life to doing things differently to creating spaces where young people feel safe, respected, and heard. Spaces where they can be themselves without judgement and start to see their worth.
The Vision
First Nations Community Support is about more than just programs it’s about impact.
The vision is to create strong, culturally grounded support systems that empower young people and families, strengthen communities, and provide real pathways forward.
Every young person deserves the opportunity to feel supported, valued, and capable of building a future they’re proud of.
